Ideas for my work are influenced by my coastal and river valley environment.
They are expressed in abstracted and varying forms, hand-built in stoneware clay using various techniques. Materials from my surroundings may be incorporated e.g. river and coastal mud, which are unrefined allowing for incidental colour and texture, enhanced by particular glazes. This can, although exciting, be very risky and unpredictable because of the varying nature of the found materials. Other slips, stain and several glazes are used. Work is first fired to bisque in a gas kiln, then electric fired to 1270ºC often several times.
