Project Description
Sophie MacCarthy
I paint a range of coloured slips directly on to the dry clay surface which are absorbed straight away allowing for spontaneity and greater tonal depth.
I use a combination of stencils, wax resist, scraffito, sponging and paper cut-outs to create distinctive imagery which is predominantly drawn from the natural world and the urban environment. Multi-coloured leaves that gather around a drain grid or stew in puddles, the blue sky reflected in the water. Scatter and flow, rhythm and movement are consistent themes in my work, along with a bold and joyous approach to colour.
