Anthony Dix

My work is wheel thrown altered and constructed drawing inspiration from utilitarian architecture and the simplicity of functional objects that describe their use by their form such as wooden water towers and oil cans and pourers. I combine straight taught forms with spiral shapes and motifs taken from a variety of spiral sources in nature from ammonites to fern fronds. During throwing I cut fine spiral lines into the forms that will be exploited like the textured addition by the reaction with soda in the kiln. The work is made for use to enhance any living space.
