My work takes references from my love of a Japanese aesthetic. For me, teapots and moon jars are symbols of community and ritual. I work in porcelain on the wheel, seeking to express the fine surface and translucency of the material through simple, balanced forms. Some surfaces are treated with bold calligraphic brush marks and stripes, contrasting with a conformity of form; more recent work has explored the use of ash glazes, golds and tin reds, introducing a more varied approach to surface treatment and allowing for a play on groupings and juxtapositions of pieces.
